Dow Jones fails to reclaim 45k

The Dow Jones opened higher yesterday, buoyed by gains in the European markets and a slight push back in US yields. So, the Dow, which had closed on Wednesday at 44,873, resumed live trading at 44,949. At that point it looked entirely feasible that we might see the index reclaim levels above 45k. Well, in the event it did not, topping out not long after opening, at 44,966. The fall that followed saw the index drop to 44,545, before later rebounding into the close, where it ended the session 125 points lower, at 44,747. Right now the futures price is lower, but not by very much. The failure to reclaim 45k is not new though and if you care to look at a daily chart covering the price action so far this year, you will see that it has stalled around there several times already. The index is currently priced to reopen around 44,700
