Divergence between Europe and the US in focus again as Dow Jones sets a new record

The US stock markets have just reopened for live trading and it has been a positive start to the day for all three major US indexes. The opening gains in the US markets are once again in stark contrast to the price action we have seen unfold all day here across the European indexes. The Dow Jones has traded above 40,400 today and it is not far off session highs right now. The gains come even as the dollar makes progress following the better sales data, but we should remember that such data is not a headwind for US stocks. The Dow Jones has just now reached a new all time high at 40,436. It is currently trading at 40,415
