DAX steps back steeply from opening above 23,200

The European stock markets have been open for more than an hour now and in that time we have seen the opening gains turn sour. The DAX reopened today at 23,202, but that was just about the extend of the gains, because since then the index has turned abruptly lower, from a session high at 23,204. The index has now fallen below 22,950 and heading towards session lows as this update is typed. As to whether it can rebound again is far from certain, given the price action we are seeing unfold right now. The CAC 40 and the FTSE 100 are lower too, but in terms of standout underperformance, it is the DAX that has the lead on that. The index is right now at 22,925
