The European stock markets saw only the FTSE 100 outperform yesterday and it was the only major index not to end the session in the red, albeit by a mere 5 points. Both the CAC and the DAX closed lower and it was the DAX that fared the worst of the two. The index handed back 66 points, to end the session at 18,633, after peaking earlier in the day at 18,672. However, the record gains in the Dow Jones last night have helped to lift the DAX futures this morning. Earlier on the index was priced to reopen above 18,725, but as that opening draws closer, the index future has pared that somewhat, but it is still set to open higher shortly, currently at around 18,700
