DAX comes off the boil ahead of ZEW release at 9am GMT

As noted here earlier, at 9am GMT we will get the latest reading of the German ZEW economic sentiment index. This is not expected to show much in the way of an improvement. The April current conditions index is expected to be at -86.8 from a prior reading of -87.6. The actual index reading itself is forecast to fall dramatically, from 51.6 to just 9.5. Of course most of that is all about the tariff measures imposed by Trump and the potential damage that might do to German exports to the US. So, on the face of it you might have expected the DAX to be rather cautious this morning. Well, so far that is not the case. The index has punched its way above 21,200 earlier, rising towards 21,275. That said, it is now curbing those gains, as that ZEW index release draws closer. The DAX is right now at 21,225
