Close but no cigar yet for the GBP/USD

Earlier today the slide in the dollar allowed the Pound to have a very close look at a level mentioned here many times before. That is the 2024 high in the GBP/USD at 1.3434- an easy number to remember. The Pound reached 1.3422 earlier and hence a case of coming very close to an upside break, but so far it has resisted the move and backed away since. The low since the high has been set at 1.3379 and a slightly earlier move to try and rise again has stalled at around 1.3410. It is now backing away again. There is no official 4pm London fix today, as the markets here are closed, but as a reference point it does still hold water, as the US markets are of course open today. From this perspective, it only seems a matter of time before 1.3434 gets taken out. We shall see as and when that does happen. The GBP/USD is right now at 1.3387
