The European and US stock markets will be closed today, but trading in Asia has seen some markets open and where that is the case, it has been a positive session. The Nikkei 225 has been trading though and so has mainland China. Where the Asian markets are open it has been a generally positive session to end the week. The Nikkei has closed modestly higher, with a gain of 0.50%. The better gains today have been seen in mainland china. The higher close in the Nikkei has helped to keep the Yen on the back foot despite yet more official Japanese warnings on the weakness of their currency. There will be more to add on that a little later. Meantime, all the European and US stock futures are closed today and there will be no trading on the NYSE later on, when the very important US PCE data is released (at 12.30pm GMT).
The US stock markets have just reopened and it has been an across the board lower start to the session. The Nasdaq 100 has just kicked off at 19,657...
Since the last update here on Gold, the metal has now tested and taken out the noted trend line resistance level, in place around $3,029 per ounce...
