Yesterday the CAC 40 opened the new year at 7,374 and as reported upon, it just failed to rise above the 7,400. The index peaked at 7,399.25 and then fell back to 7,285. However, that drop was then followed by another rebound which led it to close at 7,393.76, with a very modest gain of around 13 points on the first day of the new year. Today it has not fared so well, after reopening at 7,387.97 the index has fallen back to a low so far at 7,317.61. It has bounced off that low now though, but yet to make any impression outside of the recent ranges. That is covered right now by 7,285 and 7,400. Perhaps a move either side of that might extend, but as noted yesterday the index is seemingly still waiting for domestic political events to unfold. Right now the CAC 40 is the worst performing major European index this morning and that is keeping the STOXX 50 under a degree of pressure too. The CAC 40 is currently trading around 7,340
