CAC 40 gives up on 7,400

Earlier this morning, as the European stock markets generally kicked off the New Year on the front foot, that allowed the CAC 40 to test the 7,400 handle. However, it did not quite make it above that price point, peaking earlier at 7,399.25. The price action since has seen the index fall back and drop someway below where it closed out 2024 (7,380.74). The index has come closer to the 7,300 handle since then and clearly there is a good deal of trepidation over what comes next for French politics and an effective administration.
