The US stock markets have just reopened and it has been another mixed start to the day. The Nasdaq 100 is opening up above 2,200 and the Dow Jones is opening up below 39,300. Naturally this might all change in short order, but the continued dynamic favouring tech over the Dow industrials continues to deliver an ongoing theme of divergence for the time being. The S+P 500 is still leaning on support from the tech sector, so that is continuing to outperform the Dow too. So, in the first few minutes of live trading that divergence between the Nasdaq 100 and the Dow Jones is extending again. The Dow has dropped below 39,250 and the Nasdaq 100 has risen to 20,250 right now after reopening at 20,224. The index closed on Wednesday at 20,186. So that is another record opening for the index and a new all time high a moment ago, at 20,252
