Another bunch of S+P 500 earnings reports due out later today (corrected)

There were 35 S+P 500 components reporting earnings yesterday, up from 30 the day before. Well, today there are 42 and within that lot some pretty hefty names too, but more on that later. So, the S+P did break above 5,400 right after the official opening level, at 5,395.92. The index shot to 5,469.69 in the first 30 minutes of live trading. However, it was not able to hold that gain and it soon fell back below 5,400 and never managed to hold a rebound back above that level into the close. The index closed last night at 5,375.86. Nevertheless, that was still a healthy gain of 88.10 points on the session. The results from IBM after the closing bell, whilst bettering forecasts were not that impressive. So, the opening outlook for today remains slightly in the red right now and the latest comments from China over trade talks with the US (released a moment ago) are not especially positive. As far as big component companies reporting today, we have the likes of Pepsi, Merck and Comcast this morning, but the really important one comes this evening, after the closing bell- Alphabet (GOOGL). There will be more to add on that later. The S+P 500 is right now priced to reopen around 5,360
